Play Gin Rummy online — auto-meld highlighting, deadwood tracking, and the undercut.

Gin Rummy is the head-to-head card game that built American summer camps and Pullman trains. Draw, discard, build melds (runs of the same suit, sets of the same rank), and knock when your deadwood is 10 or less. Gin (zero deadwood) earns the 25-point bonus; an undercut beats the knocker and scores the difference plus 25.

Family Time auto-highlights every legal meld in your hand so you can plan your knock without sorting cards in your head. The deadwood count is live, so you always know exactly when you can knock and what it would score.

Three AI difficulty levels — the hard bot will track your discards and refuse to feed you the cards you need. A best-of-three match to 100 points runs about 20 minutes.

Gin Rummy FAQ

Does Family Time support traditional Gin Rummy or another variant?

Family Time runs Gin Rummy (the 2-player partnership variant called "Oklahoma Gin" with the upcard determining the knock threshold is on the roadmap).

How does the knock work?

Knock when your unmatched cards (deadwood) total 10 or fewer points. Lay down your melds, your opponent lays off any legal extensions to your melds, and you score the difference between deadwoods. Knock with zero deadwood = gin, +25 bonus.

What is an undercut?

If your opponent knocks but your deadwood (after laying off) is less than theirs, you "undercut" them — you score the difference plus a 25-point bonus instead of them scoring the difference. It's the most satisfying play in the game.
